Olaolu Akeredolu-Ale, better known as “OlaoluSlawn,” has left an indelible mark on the art scene
seamlessly blending his roles as a British-Nigerian designer, artist, and entrepreneur.
His journey commenced with “Wafflesncream,” the pioneering Nigerian skate shop
which not only served as a hub for the skate community but also laid the foundation for OlaoluSlawn’s artistic pursuits.
In 2018, Olaolu, alongside friends Leo (a.k.a. SOLDIER) and Onyedi
ventured into the creation of “Motherlan,” a brand that swiftly carved its niche in the subculture.
Industry heavyweights such as I-D magazine, Converse, and Virgil Abloh recognized the brand’s uniqueness
propelling it into the limelight. OlaoluSlawn’s move to the UK for graphic design studies
at Middlesex University in 2019 marked a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution.
The lockdown of 2020 became a catalyst for OlaoluSlawn’s foray into painting
adopting a distinctive style characterized by child-like, scribbly graffiti art.
His seemingly impulsive approach challenges conventional perceptions of art,
giving the impression of a carefree child “messing around.” However, a closer examination
reveals a deliberate and calculated artistic mind at work.
At just 24 years old, OlaoluSlawn has become a prominent figure in the London art scene
painting on diverse canvases, from cars to helicopters to garments.
His portfolio boasts achievements that include a sold-out solo exhibition at the Efie Gallery
and the prestigious opportunity to design the 2023 Brit Awards statuette.
A recent headline-maker, OlaoluSlawn sold a €20,000 painting of the cover art for “Eziokwu,”
a musical project by Nigerian Afro-grime artist Odumodublvck.
His Twitter antics, characterized by trolling and seemingly mocking those willing
to invest heavily in his work, add an intriguing layer to his persona.
In claiming to be the “worst artist” on Earth, OlaoluSlawn challenges conventional expectations
