DUKE+DEXTER CALL UP SOLDIER FOR THEIR NEW RELEASE

London based footwear brand Duke+Dexter call up SOLDIER for their new release. the Lagos bred artist, Leonard Iheagwam popularly known as “SOLDIER” or “soldierboyfriend” first gained attention in the London and Nigerian youth scene as one of the Motherlan boys. He has since gone on to make a name for himself as a multi disciplinary artist known for his military aesthetic with the camo prints and figures. now, Soldierboyfriend has become one of the most exciting faces in London’s modern art scene. For their latest release, Duke and Dexter team up with the artist to give birth to the TIGER CAMO 001 loafers. for the tiger camo 001, the Wilde penny loafer was redesigned to feature SOLDIER’s signature tiger-camo cotton canvas on the vamp. this is the first time the brand would be working with an artist on a footwear and according to them the shoes represent a real life example of working against the grain. something soldierboyfriend has tasked himself with. i.e creating art that is functional and exists in the real world. the loafers were officially released on the 27th of July and are available on the Duke + Dexter website for about N276,800. what is particularly interesting about the shoes is the number of references it points too from art, to skateboarding to modern styling, the TIGER CAMO 001 finds a way to blend them all. The loafers are definitely a step (pun intended) in the right direction for the artist. What do you think about the Duke+Dexter x SOLDIER collab?

MEET BLOKE’S NEW ART DIRECTOR; DANIEL OBASI

Daniel Obasi is the new art director at BLOKE. the multi medium artist replaced founder and creative director, faith Oluwajimi as the artistic director of the 2023 LVMH semi-finalist brand. faith announced the appointment via instagram stating that he occupied several creative titles at BLOKE over the span of 8 years and is willing to step down. he also stated that Daniel will work in a collaboration with him in an effort to spear head a new frontier in BLOKE’s quest to (stay with me)…. communicate a progressive global company with firm roots in Africa. something the brand is very much on course with. to give a brief history on BLOKE’s new art director Daniel Obasi is a well versed Nigerian Art director, stylist and photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria. in SHOWSTUDIO’s words, His aesthetics as an artist are best described as whimsical, soft, ethereal and afrocentric. the artist constantly challenges gender roles and sexuality in his work especially how masculinity and the male gender is perceived in the traditional African setting. obasi’s work has been featured on VOGUE US, VOGUE Portugal, Architectural Digest Rolling-stone UK, i-D, CNN Africa, Indie magazine, and Financial Times just to name a few. Obasi’s view on “advancing the scope of African narratives through visual mediums” aligns perfectly with BLOKE’s vision to forge new pathways for ( I hope you’re still with me) cultural exploration with an Avant-garde approach to textiles and knitwear. last year, in a brief interview with “the lonely planet” the artist spoke about his work, home town and influences. check it out below.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT PHARRELL WILLIAMS DEBUT FOR LOUIS VUITTON

Pharrell Williams debut for Louis Vuitton was nothing short of grand. by far the most anticipated show of this fashion week pharrell’s L.V show featured a huge runway glorious live music and a star studded audience all tied together in a spectacular presentation. the new creative director of the French luxury brand showcased the men’s spring-summer 2024 collection at the Pont Neuf in Paris to kick off the Paris fashion week. the invitation for the show dubbed “L.Vers” was a newspaper print out off the New York times announcing the collection dedicated to “lovers” on the front page. THE COLLECTION speaking of the actual collection one major highlight of the garments on the runway appeared to be a digitalized damoflage motif  seen on pharrell himself as he walked out at the end of the show and a number of high profile attendees including kim kardashian spotted in a cozy athleisure rendition of the print. the motif repeatedly appeared on hoodies, bags, jackets and suits through-out the collection. the collection features a total of 75 looks with ample accessories including bags and luggage boxes . the feedback for the collection so far has been mixed and inevitable comparisons have been drawn to Pharrell’s late predecessor. the truth is, the collection cannot truly be faulted. at most, critics claim it is not “spectacular” or “mind blowing”. but a reoccurring accusation from the fashion community is the fact that the actual designer/designers responsible for the garments will never get the recognition, because as we all know pharrell has no form of fashion education. this is not a new accusation against modern creative directors and the fashion houses appointing them. the late Virgil Abloh was not spared from the critics either yet ended up being a huge success at the house. This is a decent start for the multi-hyphenate and it is way to early to decide his fate at the luxury French house. check out some looks from Pharrell Williams debut collection below what do you think about Pharrell’s first collection as creative director for louis Vuitton?
