Our favorite unisex artisanal brand, Maxivive, has captured our attention with yet another stellar collection.

Born from pure intentionality and the need for artful expression, the creative director and founder
Papa Oyeyemi, dives deep into a tragic, personal, real-life incident to inspire this particular collection.

Going into the show, it’s hard to know what to expect from the “106104 Artisinal Collection.”

The peculiar name already sparks interest, along with a brief excerpt from the show note

beneath an Instagram post from the brand a few days prior.

The caption read…

“The feeling of loss is not due to the absence of that which is lost but to our estimation of it.

once it is gone, we are forced to regard everyone and everything as sacred”

Everything truly comes together when you get to see the show and the garments.

Papa takes us back to 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria, when his life literally flashed before his eyes

as he was trapped in his own vehicle that had just suddenly burst into flames!

The scene quickly escalates until he is saved from the ruins of the wreckage by nearby onlookers.

This event serves as a representation of the human loss Papa has had to endure all his life.

An interesting detail about the name of the show is that it’s the postal code for where the traumatic incident took place.

The runway presentation is truly an immersive one, as the brand makes use of props and sound effects to relive the event.

maxivive invites us to to examine loss differently, a place where we consider not what we’ve lost

but the degree to which we magnify it.
